PayPal Scam

The Pitch

The scammers send an email to you telling you there's a problem with your PayPal account and that you need to login to correct it. Look below to see what the email looks like.

The Scam

Once you click on the link, and enter your e-mail and password, the scammers have your information and can access your account (and your money) at any time.

Play it Safe

  • Forward the email to spoof@paypal.com. PayPal will immediately work to shut down the scam site.
  • Forward the email to spam@uce.gov. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will place your email in a database and use the combined information to track down and prosecute the scammer/spammers.
  • Buy the $5 security key that secures your PayPal account. The key generates a random code every 30 seconds that you must use to access your account. Even if a thief has your e-mail address and password, they still won't be able to get in without the code.
