These resources discuss health insurance and/or affordable health care:

State Insurance Department. The insurance department in most states maintain very useful websites where consumers can learn about health insurance, complaints lodged against particular insurance companies, and health insurance scams. Link to your state's website through this map at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.

Health savings accounts. For a thorough discussion of the history, features, benefits, and costs of HSAs, read this Wikipedia article.

Health pamphlets. To order free pamphlets discussing many different health topics, visit this link at the Federal Citizen Information Center.

TexasHealthOptions.com is a website administered by Texas Department of Insurance providing a step-by-step approach to finding health coverage. Most of this information applies to every state.

Healthcare Plans and Options. Charts comparing fee-for-service and managed-care plans from the Texas Department of Insurance.

StudentResources.net provides excellent basic information under ‘Insurance 101,' ‘Insurance at Glance,' and ‘Insurance Details.

Affordable Health Care. Community Health Centers are connected to city or county assistance programs and try to meet the health care needs of the uninsured and underinsured. To find the center nearest you, do a Google search using your city followed by "Community Health Center".
