Telemarketing Scams

You're probably used to receiving phone calls from telemarketers people trying to sell you something or tell you that you've won a prize. While many legitimate businesses and charities use the telephone for marketing, it is often hard to tell the difference between these legitimate calls and fraudulent ones from criminals trying to steal your money. Telemarketing fraud cost consumers and businesses more than 40 billion dollars last year. So if you are tempted by an offer, make sure you get the facts before you act.

Play it Safe

  • Never give personal information over the phone to an unknown caller.
  • Say no to high-pressure sales tactics.
  • Take your time when considering a sales opportunityconsider asking for written information.
  • Tell callers if you don't want to hear from them again. If they call back, they're breaking the law.
  • And never be afraid to just hang up the phone!
