Credit Card Scams

A common credit card scam is for someone to call your home on the pretense that he or she represents your credit card company. The caller will sound professional, polite, and knowledgeable about your credit card. The caller may ask you to verify the routing number on your bank account.

Play it Safe
In no case should you give personal information over the phone to an unknown caller.

Ask for verification but still be cautious of the information. One fraud, when asked for verification, gave the requestor a bogus 1-800 number that was not connected to a bank.

If you receive a similar request by telephone, call your local law enforcement agency.

The Fraud of the Month is provided by the Washington Attorney General's Office,Consumer Protection Division.
